Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership (ESCP), specialist coastal engineers who manage 162km of Hampshire coastline, today announced a new name ‘Coastal Partners’, a rebrand of their visual identity and a new website focused on giving residents and business owners easy access to news and updates on projects in their area.
Coastal Partners is a partnership of four local authorities: Portsmouth City Council, Havant Borough Council, Gosport Borough Council and Fareham Borough Council, who work in collaboration to deliver comprehensive coastal management services.
The new name reflects their intention to respond to new opportunities by sharing their expertise, skills and services outside the Eastern Solent area and by working with new and existing partners. The partnership already works closely with the Southern Coastal Group and SCOPAC, with their Head of Service, Lyall Cairns, our current Chairman and Samantha Cope, Research & Analysis Team Leader at Coastal Partners being our Research Chair.

The coastal engineering industry is having to respond rapidly to changes that climate change presents while continuing to balance the needs of communities. Coastal Partners is evolving because the world is changing and as an organisation determined to lead the way in innovation in their industry, they recognised that they needed to evolve too. The skills, knowledge and expertise of Coastal Partners’ specialist engineers and officers can aid other businesses and local authorities with their coastal management needs.
Coastal Partners has a track record for delivering projects. Highlights include:
Southsea Coastal Scheme has been designated a Major Project nationally and is the largest local authority led coastal defence project in the country with funding of nearly £100 million from the UK Government. When complete the scheme will reduce flood risk to 10,119 homes and 704 non-residential properties in Southsea offering flood protection for the next 100 years.
The North Portsea Island Scheme which covers 8.4km of coastline completed phase 3 (of 5 phases) in Autumn 2019. This scheme reduces the risk of flooding from the sea to over 4,200 homes, 500 businesses and protects essential infrastructure including the Eastern Road over the next 100 years.
Both schemes provide specialist technical engineering project and contract management at their core with public realm enhancements, including seating, cycle paths, children’s play areas and environmental habitat regenerating projects.
