Tracer Pebble Studies Research webinar, 16th March
Published on 15 February, 2023

Thursday 16th March, 10am – 12pm

The Southern Coastal Group and SCOPAC will be holding a bitesize research webinar on Tracer Pebble Studies on the 16th March, to disseminate findings from a series of projects across the region, sponsored by SCOPAC and carried out by Coastal Partners in partnership with other Local Authorities and the Environment Agency.

Outputs from the studies, in combination with data from the National Network of Regional Monitoring Programmes, help to advance the understanding of local coastal processes by providing quantitative information such as sediment transport rates and directions. This information informs Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management at an operational level, scheme design and at a strategic level, feeding into updates of the SCOPAC Sediment Transport Studies.

We will also be introducing a new Acoustic Monitoring method currently in development by Coastal Partners, supported by SCOPAC funding.

The 2-hour webinar session will be held on Microsoft Teams, starting at 10am, with the running order as follows:

  • Welcome and introduction to ‘Tracer Pebbles’ and the methods used by Coastal Partners – Sacha Neill (Coastal Partners)
  • Preston Beach (Weymouth) Tracer Pebble Study – Dave Picksley (Environment Agency)
  • Langstone (Portsmouth) Tracer Pebble Study – Alex Hillawi (Coastal Partners)
  • Hurst Spit (New Forest) & West Bay (Dorset) Tracer Pebble Studies – Emma Harris (Coastal Partners).
  • Development of Acoustic Tags – Sacha Neill (Coastal Partners)
